I currently have my iTunes library on my PowerMac G5. All of the MP3 files are on there. I'd like to take my library with me on my PowerBook. The way I think this can be accomplished is to use an external hard drive. Move the MP3 files to the external hard drive. And then on both computers, in the iTunes prefs, change the library location to the external hard drive. Finally, in my ~/Music directory on both computers, instead of the folder iTunes being a folder, I would change that to a symlink or alias pointing to a folder on the external hard drive which would have the iTunes DB file. Theoretically, this should let me easily move my library between computers. If I add something to the library on one computer, change a rating, add to a playcount, edit a tag, whatever, on one computer, when the drive is plugged into the new computer, the changes should show. Theoretically, all this would work. Now, in reality, will this really work? Has anyone succeeded in doing this? Thanks.
