iTunes on Mac turns on Apple TV

This started yesterday or maybe friday. When we try to watch a show on my mac mini, I double click an entry and then it sends it to my apple tv into the living room (and turning the tv on in the process). I saw elsewhere on how to change it back to my desktop (the airplay icon and click the other display), but I shouldn't have to do this every time I watch something.
