I used to have all my music on my MBP but have recently moved all of it onto a NAS, along with my TV/Movies and iOS app backups.
I'd like to leave the content on the NAS and just stream it to my computers, but not sure the best way to do it.
I have a mac mini which is on 24/7 and wired via gigabit ethernet to the NAS, was wondering if I could set up that as my main library, and then just turn on 'home sharing' and all other computers in the house (one MBA, one ATV2, couple of windows laptops) could just access it via home sharing? Not used that before so is it like accessing it locally or is it limited? Can my wife sync her iPod on her computer via home sharing or would we need to connect them all up to the mini?
Next point is how I get the content seen on my mini. On my NAS I have separate folders/mapped drives - Music, TV, Movies, Media (for my apps). iTunes just wants to be told one folder. How do I get around that? I don't have a root folder above all of the content folders, they show up as separate shares (e.g. 192.168.5.5/music; 192.168.5.5/TV). All samba shares.
after getting my current content sorted, I'd like to set it up so that purchases (iOS apps, music etc) are automatically saved on the NAS. Not sure if thats possible but would be good.
