I'm running iTunes from my Windows 7 PC and my media folder is on a network drive (an OSX box running Lion 10.7.2).
Sometimes the song playing stops and skips to the next song. Tests have shown that this does not happen if song files are the local drive. It also doesn't happen in same place in song. (I have consolidated songs to move them to the media folder on the server. To test I delete song in library, telling iTunes to delete file and then adding folder from a backup on my local drive, telling iTunes to not move file to media folder.)
I do also remember having this problem in the past on my iPod Touch, which is synced via the PC. But a forced restore (thanks iTunes update!) and more selective music sync seems to have fixed it on the touch.
I have checked logs on PC (event viewer) and Mac (Console) and see nothing. My network router logs also show nothing.
On Windows I have latest Bonjour services. On Mac I am using an SMB share.
Any ideas on where to look for clues into this mystery? I am going to figure this thing out once and for all ...
Thanks,
Gregg
