If I buy a song on iTunes on my iPhone can I download it again for free on my Mac (like I can with apps) or do I have to sync it across?

When you sync your iPhone, the song(s) that you have purchased will automatically go to iTunes.

Yeah the reason I ask is I very rarely sync my phone....I prefer just to download it again if possible.

Even if you download it again, iTunes will recognize that you've already purchased it and it will be free. This happens with my Apps and TV shows also...

Are you sure? I've seen that behaviour with apps, but not with music. I actually just tried to re-buy something and I got the usual "your credit card will be charged if you continue" message.

Let me see if I can repeat it. I'll post my results...

"Nermal" You are correct, I attempted to purchase a song that I deleted, and I got "your credit card will be charged if you continue" message. Now, I have to track down my receipt in my iTunes receipt file!!! Just lost an episode of Weeds Season 2 Episode 12, Dang!
