Hi

Im having an issue with iTunes. 90% of the time that I closed it after listening to music, 30 seconds later, it relaunches! Its only been doing it for a few weeks and I can't understand why!

The only plugin I have for it is Synergy (buttons in the menu bar). Can't find anything in the options that would cause it to relaunch.

Any ideas?

Do you have any iTunes-related widgets open? They are the usual suspects when this happens.

I have this problem but only rarely and I too use Synergy. Cant live without it.

Contact the guy who makes synergy. Hes a nice enough bloke and will most likely get back to you on the subject. Ive sent him a few bug reports in the past and he was kind enough to give me a temporary work around while he worked on a new release.

Latest nightly fixes the issue

By coincidence, I saw this respawn issue myself only last night and very quickly found the cause: if you have the AudioScrobbler support turned on and then quit iTunes while there is a track in the submission queue, Synergy will wake-up iTunes to double-check just before submitting, thus causing the unwanted respawns.

I've fixed this by adding a check to see if iTunes is running before issuing the query. You can try out the latest nightly build if you'd like:

There is still a window of about 2 seconds in which a respawn could occur because of an inherent lag in the way Mac OS X reports process status; that is, if you ask the system if iTunes is running there is a period of about 2 seconds in which it will reply affirmatively even if you've just quit iTunes. There are ways to overcome this problem but I wanted to get a simple solution out there as quickly as possible.

I've had exactly the same problem. Plus my only itunes related software is synergy. Are you aware that there is a synergy update from a few days ago? It may have solved the problem, but only time will tell!

The latest official release 3.1.1 doesn't solve the problem, but the newer "nightly" build referenced above does. So you can either download the nightly or wait for 3.1.2.
