Dear iTunes experts:

I need some help with iTunes.

After too many years on the dark side, I have returned to the Mac (new Air). My iTunes library is too big for the internal Air drive, so it needs to "live" on an external HD (USB direct or connected to my NAS).

What I want to do:
Have the iTunes index on the internal SSD drive.
Have the iTunes music (and other) files on the external HDD.

What I have:
iTunes library and all associated files from the old PC configuration.

I can easily copy the iTunes media files to the external drive and preserve directory structure. I know that I can point the Mac iTunes at that library... but, I am not sure if it will reload everything and I am not sure how to get the index file on the SSD so that I have the high-speed index/responsiveness of the Air.

Suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks.
