I just discovered that in Canada, a whole slew of indie artists are represented by Arts & Crafts, a Canadian indie label distributed by EMI. Now, as we all know, EMI is the only major label to release its content iTunes Plus, right? Well, due to a hugely ironic technicality, laws just don't apply in Canada.
. Feist, represented in the States and most other places by Interscope, owned by Polydor, owned by Universal - the most vehemently anti-iTunes, no-we're-not-un-DRM'ing-our-songs-for-iTunes label - is represented by Arts & Cafts in Canada and therefore distributed by EMI... making her music and videos iTunes Plus, DRM-free goodness. It's hilarious. At the end of her videos there flashes a COPYRIGHT POLYDOR logo and it makes me laugh.
Take that loophole and shove it, Universal! Muahahaha...
