The other day I forgot to eject my ipod before taking it out of my dock, then the next time I put my ipod in, it wanted me to register it again or something like that. I lost all my music on my ipod including audio books that i had bought on my old computer that I can't get to anymore. Did this happen because I didn't eject my ipod, and is there any way of getting those tracks back?

Use the iPod updater to restore your iPod. When it is empty that will probably be the only option (versus update or restore.) The current operating software will be put back onto the iPod. Start iTunes and your music will download onto it. It takes some time.

Get the latest iPod updater from Apple's software updates.

[Edit] There is on VersionTracker a commercial program called Pod Salvage that might recover tracks on the iPod.
