iTunes problem

it would appear that on my iTunes, instead of having an album category in my main library, I have an album by artist category. this is extremely annoying, and I've tried disabling this column altogether and putting it back, to no avail. I've checked preferences and I can't find anything. Advice?

That is the Album category, it is saying that it is sorted by Artist. If you click where it says 'Album by Artist' it will cycle through the options.
