Recently I was dragging artwork from iTunes to the OS X desktop, I noticed the file was a pict but was unable to edit it. I then found ClipEdit for OS X and used that to save this file as a PNG. My questions are:
1. Why does the artwork show up as a pict when it's really an embedded JPG?
2. When doing this is the image identical to the JPG or not?
3. What sort of loss is acquired when resaving this pict as a jpg?
Finally the artwork I drag out is 75 DPI, I assume this is iTunes native DPI. The question I have is this, if I drag artwork at 300 DPI into the file and it's embedded, then later drag it out at 75 DPI, did the act of dragging it out of iTunes cause the DPI to drop from 300 to 75 or was it changed when added through iTunes?
