iTunes randomly not playing songs

Recently I've been having trouble with iTunes randomly not playing songs (although possibly only after waking from sleep, as a put my iMac to sleep frequently).
Everything will look OK, and the play button changes to pause, yet the songs don't start and the timer stays on 0:00.

Does anyone else have a problem like this? Or a solution?
I have a feeling it may be some kind of quicktime issue, but I imagine the good people of Macrumors will have a better idea than me.

I have had the same issue on my PC. I haven't been able to determine a pattern but a re-boot fixes the issue -- a real pain though.
