I thought I would pass this information along. I'm in a band, and several of our CD's are sold on iTunes. I was contacted recently from our record label, and was told they had to sign an additional contract for digital rights for the use of our music as ring tones, giving us a different (and smaller) percentage of profit per ring tone sold.

It looks to me like Apple is collecting the legal documents before unleashing the ring tone option to the public, but it does look like it's coming.

If I hear more on this, I'll pass it along.

the piano solo on Clapton's Layla was the ringtone on my RAZR. i've been meaning to get around to hacking my iphone to do that for a while now
