I'm trying to update to 2.0, but when I hit check for update on iTunes it says "This version of the iPhone software (1.1.4) is the current version."

I've already downloaded iTunes 7.7 and I've restarted my computer and my iphone a bunch of times.

Does anyone know how to get around this?

Maybe the updater servers are down. They should have released 2.0 to existing iPhone owners a few days prior to 3G release.

Mine did that for a while this morning, but eventually started downloading the update. IMHO, if I were you, I'd wait a few days, the update process is a huge headache and may brick your iPhone for an indeterminate period of time. For me, it was over 3 hours, but for some it was longer.

Same thing happened to me but then came to this great and wonderful site and tada they have the link posted on the home page just downland and follow the directions and youll be apping it up in no time.

I think they pulled the servers earlier, I was getting the same message, I checked iTunes 3mins ago and it was there, I d/l'ed it and it's going through the process as I type.. seems to be working fine.

I tried from 7 AM til 10 AM (EST this morning) and now since 3PM this afternoon. Still nothing. First no iPhone 3G (sold out) and now no 2.0. The next time they make an announcement like this, I am going to plan to get all excited 4 days from that date.

Me too!

Why should they have done that? When would they have been able to post the MobileMe website or 7.7? And plus, they announced that they were going to release it on the 11th.

I noticed it around 6pm BST.

I assume Apple pulled the update because of the problems they were having with their activation servers (Firmware 2.0 needs the iPhone activating through iTunes again) and were hoping to avoid extra server load.

The activation servers seem to be up again, so hopefully Apple will start pushing the 2.0 firmware. Having updated one phone I can assure it is worth the wait.

Been waiting to get that update forever... What's wrong with them ?
Edit:

@ 5:54 2.0 just showed up! Will see what gives.

i got home from work a little while ago and have been getting the same message. then suddenly, right as i was about to rant on here, the 2.0 update popped up! There is hope!
