I am looking to set up a server for my iTunes music and movies. I have a separate computer hooked up to the network that will house all my iTunes media. I plan to use one main computer to add/manage/edit all the media to the server and use the others to access it and have their own playlists, play counts, etc. I also plan to use this same main computer to homeshare to my appletv's.

My question is whether I should set it up as a file server or an iTunes server? If I set it up as a file server, each computer will access the media only and have their own "iTunes Library.itl" file because I don't care about updating the playlists and play counts. My main computer, however, will access the "itunes Library.itl" on the server. Setting it up as a iTunes server will cause all the media to show up under shared, and waste 1 of 5 homeshare slots for each computer won't it? Also, can I sync homeshare music to my iphone without copying it to the computer?

I am leaning more towards the file server version of iTunes media sharing, but I would like some advice from those who have servers for sharing iTunes media. Thank you so much.
