itunes, shared drives .... how do you do it?

I did some searching and I don't see a good way for doing this. I have a nas at home with an itunes server. I want my main library on that so no matter what computer I log into I have my music. The problems I have is that I cannot change the info nor can I import a cd directly into it. I wouuld point my itunes to the server but then I'm not using the itunes server and if I log in on another computer, will it be seen as a share if that computer is not on.

Any help appreciated.
