Hi, my old mini is very slow on iTunes downloads... only 100 KB/s. I have an external MyBook to store the library. I'm running OSX 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.6.1 (up to date for that OS). Nothing else is running on the computer.

I've checked iTunes on my laptop, and it gets 3.5 MB/s. Data transfer to the mini from the laptop is fine both ways, as is downloading from other web sites, so it is not the hardware. Also importing a CD into iTunes shows there is no problem on disk transfer speeds.

I've also turned off all sharing, Ping, and Home Sharing.

Looking at Activity Monitor, it will plod along at 100 KB/s or under for about 30 seconds, drop to just a few bytes/second, and then spike to 1.5+ MB/s, and repeat. This has been going on for months.

Any ideas on what would be causing that? Thanks!
