My main home system (3GHz quad core with 8GB of ram and an SSD as program and boot drive) has about 600GB in music files. Itunes is a slug on this system.

Should I expect any better with my i5 MBP?

The size of your library should not be a factor in the performance, as you only play one song at a time. My 30,000 song library works just fine on my 2 1/2 yr old C2D MBP with 4GB RAM. Of course, everything runs better on my Mac than on any Windows system I ever used.

Making playlists is a bear with my present configuration (I am over 100K in songs). WinAmp for windows, as bloated as it is, seems to handle the library far better.

Regardless, thank you for the input. I am hoping to test itunes with my whole library soon.
