iTunes Stops Responding When iPad Connected

I just updated my iPhone to 4.3 just fine, but now I want to update my iPad. When I connect my iPad to the computer, iTunes freezes. I've quit and retried several times, but it freezes almost instantly. Any ideas? iTunes is running on a Macbook with Snow Leopard.
