An Apple ID is an Account with Apple (using an email address as the username) that can be used with a variety of services:

- iTunes Store
- MobileMe (an address ending in .me or .mac)
- Apple Developer Connection
- Apple Support (including discussion forums)
- Apple Store (online)

If you made an account for iTunes, it can be used with these other services.
