iTunes store and public wifi

Does anyone know for sure if it is safe to purchase from the iTunes store on public wifi? I assume that the password would be sent over SSL but I'm not sure.

It should be safe, unless someone is actively sitting there snooping for iTunes data. You'd generally want to avoid things like online banking, but you should be fine with iTunes.
