Hi guys,

I've just upgraded a 720p movie that I purchased on the iTunes Store a few months ago to the 1080p version but when I wanted to watch it with my Apple TV 3 on my 1080p tv, the movie wasn't full screen. So I checked the file of the movie and it was in 1920x1036 instead of full 1920x1080.

Anyone knows why it's not full 1080p?

Because some films aren't shot at a 16:9 aspect ratio, which would give you 1920x1080. Some films are shot at 2.39:1, some are shot at 16:10. Depends on the cinematographer.

Here ya go

Anyone knows why it's not full 1080p?
You'll also probably notice that the 720p file isn't 1280x720, but rather 1280x691 (or so).

The movie that you bought is at 1.85 ratio, whereas 1080p (and 720p) is 1.78. The movie in question is slightly wider than HDTV.

True, the 720p wasn't actually full 720p.

So, basically, it's not a bug or an issue but it's because the movie was filmed in this different ratio?
