Itunes to external usb drive

Hi. I have started ripping dvds and adding to itunes (although not copied to the itunes media library under preferences) but before i go any further, i think i will put all my media on an external drive instead. Is there an easy way to update the path of the files i've already copied to itunes or is it easier to delete what i have already done (approx 200 files) and just re add them to itunes from their new location. Thanks.
