iTunes to usb transit

I cannot get audio from iTunes to my M-audio usb transit. I can get Garage Band to play to it. When I try to play iTunes I get a quick digital burst and then nothing. Any ideas?

iMac 2.9, iTunes 11.0.3, OSX 10.8.3, M-Audio usb transit.
