I admit I am new to macs but this problem is an odd one. I opened my itunes two nights ago to find 'Nidra's Limewire Tunes' in a shared folder. I have never authorized sharing and I do not have limewire (or any file sharing program). I am sure there is some way to remove this shared folder, but I have had no luck. I have removed cookies from safari and firefox and still show the offending file in the itunes library. I am concerned that someone is scanning my mac for bank accounts and whatnot, only because this is so foreign to me. How can I clear this off my itunes and be sure that I do not have a pirate scanning my computer for personal data.

That's someone else's library that you're seeing over your network.

Check in the iTunes preference for sharing, are you looking for shared libraries? Are you sharing yours?

What is your network setup?

No, no one's scanning your computer for things. That just means someone else is sharing their library and you're picking it up over the network. Trust me, going to college I see that all the time.

It's not doing any harm,

however you can stop it from showing up by going to iTunes preferences.
Then in the Sharing tab uncheck the "Look for shared libraries" box.

Also if the "Share my library on my local network" checkbox is ticked, this will allow other people to play files in your library (unless you have a password set and the "Require password" box is ticked).

When I was in university accommodation I would see 20 - 30 shared libraries.

Although nothing to do with your problem, what I found more amusing though was that I left my Airport Expresses AirTunes without a password (deliberately), so that my speakers would show up in other peoples iTunes, I had a few people try and play their music through my speakers.

The reason I freaked out is that I am unaware of anyone else on my network. I have high speed internet at my apartment and other than the wireless network (NETGEAR) router I have no one else using this ip.

I dechecked, unclicked, deselcted, and removed authorization for sharing in itunes.

Thanks for the tips.

Now, should I take my wireless router and make it unavailable to the public?

Sounds like a personal question,

Scott~

Yes, because if you're seeing that playlist, someone else is getting a free ride on your Internet connection (and at the same time, opening you up to nastygrams from content companies since they're using Limewire on your connection).

Cheeky thieving f**kers - WPA is the only way to go, Scott, m'boy! ;)
