iTunes version on JB itouch and ipad

I have a 2nd Gen iTouch and a new iPad and using iTunes 8.5 or 8.9 something...for just the iTouch 2nd Generation. Is it possible to use the newer iTunes for the 2nd Generation iTouch. As the iPad needs at least a 9.0 or even the 9.1 version of iTunes... as I hate using different PCs to update these 2 devices... advise?
