I have noticed the episodes in season 5 of lost are twice the size (MB) of previous seasons I have bought from iTunes. I am buying standard def.

I can't remember Apple saying anything about upping bit-rates...

they are defo standard def, I don't have enough hard drive space for HD.

Not that I know of, but it's possible. Maybe the audio has been increased just like the music, but that wouldn't cause the increase in size that I saw.

Some of the SD episodes now include an AC3 5.1 soundtrack in addition to the 2.0 AAC one, which would result in a larger file... but that wouldn't result in a file twice as big.

you might be right about the sound increasing the size, I just checked and an episode in season 4 is 462.3 mb and the latest episode in season 5 is 625.9 mb.

not quite double the size!
