iTunes video playback choppy on new imac

so i have a new 2.8 GHz alu imac w/ 2 GB RAM, but when I playback music video files (mpg) in iTunes they are choppy as if my computer is too slow. Kind of like the effect you get w/ streaming internet video w/ a slow connection.

ANy idea why this is happening or how I could make it play back betteR?
