itunes volume dimmed when connected to airport

Hi all,
I have been using my airport express for about one year and was never able to change the volume slider in itunes when i am connected to the remote speakers. When i play local in the imac it works fine. On my partners laptop it works fine. Anybody now or has had this issue?
i run ox10
