I'm not sure which forum to stick this in...this maybe seems like the closest, but I don't know... I'm actually using iTunes primarily on Windows, but it should be the same, and I figured this would be more relevant.

Okay, so iTunes + Podcasts + iPods/iOS USED to work pretty great, from 2005 through iOS 7. Syncing now is awful by comparison, they introduce new bugs with every version of iTunes, every version of iOS.

But specifically right now I'm trying to figure out why iTunes isn't display all the podcasts physically on my PC-why some are vanishing from the interface though they're still physically there, why some show up on the "feed" view but not the "unplayed/my episodes/saved" view.

TONS of weird things going on, and it's DIFFERENT weird things on different podcast feeds. Like right now (and most annoyingly) my Majority Report feed has had some podcasts I've not manually deleted yet (but have played) just vanish from iTunes, even though it's not set to delete anything, and they're still physically there.

What could cause that? A few days ago "unsubscribing" then "subscribing" fixed it, but it's back again.

I discovered a bunch of shows that have a ton of episodes not downloaded even though they should have been. I've got parts of some shows that show up in the "feed" view but not the other view, and vice versa for other shows!

It's just a disaster...I mean it's getting so buggy and bad I'm starting to wonder if going back to the 2004 method of managing this stuff manually (maybe using Mozilla's Thunderbird's RSS support) would be the way to go.

Oh, and the cloud "sync" settings NEVER work for me, so I normally turn them off on both iOS and iTunes, BUT toggled them back on while trying to figure out how to make this work again, and all that did is make SOME episodes of SOME podcasts get marked as played, even though I've never played them anywhere on any device.

I'm sorry this is so vague...I've found nothing when I try to search on any of these issues on a search engine. Is iTunes just a total disaster now? Is there some way to fix things?

(I guess the only "good" thing about if iTunes becomes unusable is I'll have no reason to stick with iOS anymore...though I LIKE iOS generally...)
