can anyone suggest a solution?

I have a large batch of .wav files that I want available in itunes. They play fine in quicktime.

When I choose add to library the dialogue box says adding tunes but they never appear.

I tried drag & drop ? nothing

someone on another forum suggested using File Eximiner to edit the file type - changing it from .wav to WAVE. The program worked great - very clean, quick & easy.

But itunes still won't add the files

WAV Files

Do you have iTunes 4.x and Quicktime 6.2 or later? If you do, double click the files you want to import, and it should import them automatically into your iTunes list and then play them. If not, Apple-click/ control-click - I can't remember which one - or right mouse button click to the contextual menu where the command "Open with..."should be. Select iTunes.

Voila!

the wav files are greyed out in import because technically wavs are a file format that itunes can use. In fact other wav files work just fine.

they are compltely accessable from add to library but just don't appear after the dialogue box that says it is adding them . control clicking or apple clicking has no effect at all - not even a drop down menu. As mentioned, they all play fine in quicktime.

changing the default program for opening opens itunes but the file still doesn't appear or play.

10.2.6 itunes 4.01

get the same problem too...

I get the same problem as well. using 24-bit wav file, interleaved stereo file from Protools,

i've had it work before, but don't know why this problem has come up (it's also come up before). Any thoughts out there?

itunes 4.9, mac os 10.3.9

iTunes doesn't support 24-bit WAV files, for some strange reason. 16-bit WAVs work just fine, though. I've had this issue when trying to import 24-bit, 96 khz WAV files into iTunes... it doesn't want to recognize and play them, even though such files play just fine in QuickTime, as you mentioned.

I'm as baffled by this as everyone else is.
