I have an iPhone X on the iPhone upgrade program, but the last payment will not be processed until 9/27, Which will presumably be after pre-orders for the new phones go live. Therefore, I assume I will need to make my last payment manually before pre-order night? Am I able to make that last payment now, or do you have to do it at the time of upgrade? If I go into the Apple Store app now and select my iPhone upgrade program contract, it says I can make the last payment when upgrading, but I didn’t know if I actually have to upgrade at the time of the payment Or if I can just make the payment to be upgrade eligible?

I walked through it myself and it looks like it will be done at the time of upgrade. I clicked Continue and it gave me the options to upgrade to an 8 or a X. I'm assuming it will have the XS once that is a choice.

It looks like I'm upgrade eligible on 10/02/2018, so I may do the same as well so I can be ready with preorders since I'll miss the window by about 2 weeks (if they really launch 3rd or 4th week of Sept).

Launching the phones late last year really bungled those of us wanting to upgrade annually. Not thrilled at paying out the extra $56-ish, but I also don't want to get stuck in a later and later cycle every year.

Thanks everyone, I’ll be calling them tomorrow and making my early payment. I logged into my citizens account for my iPhone thinking I could make the extra payment there but there is no option to do that. You can change the payment method, but no way to make an early payment.

The payment is to make you eligible just so you know as well you will continued to be billed as usual until the new iPhone actually shipped depending on your payment cycle. Once the device shipped that starts your new loan. You can also pay the amount to be eligible using the Apple Store app or link below. I would do this when the newer devices are announced on Sept 12 before preorder normally on Friday.

Weird. My original iPhone X that shows I have AC+ says Im not enrolled in the upgrade program when i check through the app.

Yeah and my phones never been replaced. Have apple calling me at 11am tomorrow. Ill be pissed if this isnt fixed by next week.

I called today to make my 12th payment so that I am eligible on pre-order day. I don't want to take a chance of not being able to make that last payment at the time of pre-ordering (especially since timeliness is everything when pre-ordering).

Citizens REALLY does not want to talk to iPhone Loan customers though. If you choose anything related to the iPhone in the automated menu, it will just tell you to contact Apple and it will immediately hang up on you! I had to go through a BUNCH of automated menus to actually get to talk to someone. Once I did, however, they knew exactly what I wanted to do and it only took about 2 minutes. I will check early next week to make sure that the Apple Store app shows I am eligible, as it can take a few days to post (as mentioned earlier).

Made my 12th payment today. It's somewhat ridiculous that you have to call Citizens One to do this. Apple app still says I need to make 1 payment, so I'll keep an eye on that over the next week.

Technically, it's not an extra payment. You're eligible to upgrade after 12 payments and you're making your 12th payment. It's early, but it's not extra.

If you were on the iUP last year, it was an extra payment, but you also used the phone for another month so there is that.

I made my early payment Friday morning and the Apple Store app just now shows I am eligible, so it took 1 business day for it to go through. I'd imagine yours will show eligible on Monday, but for sure by the time of the iPhone announcement and preorders.

Could you do this during the pre-approval process? Or should I just call and get it over with?

You can do it at pre-order. I can’t remember if pre-approval is only checking your credit or if it also checks to see where you stand with your current loan, as in if you’ve made the required amount of payments. Wouldn’t hurt to call Citizens One and get it over with so it’s one less thing to worry about at pre-approval/order.

Post #3 has the phone number you need.
