I've been backing up using iCloud but iTunes asking to restore?

my iphone 5 has been backing up to icloud (last backup was yesterday). i plugged it into my macbook pro this morning to add some music but it's asking me to restore or set up as new. the backup it wants to restore from is from over a year ago. if i hit continue, i'm assuming i'll lose all that data right? how do i bypass this?
