I have a 1st Generation 10 GB iPod, which have been great for 2,5 years.
Recently the sound have been falling out from one of the earbuds, because the female minijack was worn out..
I talked to my local macstore today and he told me that i have to send it to apple, because resellers wasn't allowed to touch iPods (although they repair ibooks and powerbooks..)
Since this iPod is 2,5 years old, i didn't want to spend much money on it.
So i opened the iPod, resoledered the minijack (and changed one of the "metal thingies who touches the male minijack"..(not a native english user..).
The whole procedure was done in under two hours!!
The ipod female minijack connector has 8 contactpoints (?) to the motherboard.
Stereo sound (minijack) uses only 3, so what are the 5 others??
Glad it worked out, i can't affort a ipod right now...
