With my iPhone, I've never really wanted to carry a laptop around, carrying a device in my pocket that was comparable is much more convenient. The iPhone 3GS's speed is pretty impressive. While it can only get about 1/3 to a 1/4 of my 16-18mbp/s wifi connection, the iPhone 3GS's webpage render speed comes close to rivaling my MacBook Pro (it doesn't rival it, but like I said, it comes close). Is that a bad or a good thing, a phone with a 600MHz processor and 256MB of RAM is almost as fast as my MacBook Pro at some things

That's pretty impressive. The processor and RAM of the previous iPhones were even bottlenecking the 3G connection.
