Fooling around with my Dock today and managed to lose my Applications icon.
Have tried following the advice on the forum but just can't seem to restore the icon.
Help, please!

What advice did you follow and didn't work?

Btw, I have added the Application's folder ICNS file as an attachment, it is archived in the .zip file.

I believe the OP is talking about the Application "icon" on his dock (because he was messing around with it). To get it back, just go into the Finder and drag your Applications folder back into the dock.

Thanks but not working

To get it back, just go into the Finder and drag your Applications folder back to the right side of the dock.

When I go into Finder, I have Applications as one of my Places. However, when I click on it and start to drag it down to the Dock, I get the crumpled paper icon appearing which, if I understand correctly, means that I will be removing it from Places (which I definitely don't want to do).
Have also tried going into 'Get Info', and clicking on the Applications icon there to copy and paste but that doesn't work either.
Am a very new user and feeling very lost here.

Attachments aren't working.

Click on Macintosh HD in Finder.
On the right side of the screen, drag the Applications folder to the right side of your Dock.
You don't drag it from the left sidebar in Finder.

Yes, you understand correctly. The same thing happens when you drag things off of the Dock. You can get the Applications "marker" back in Places through Finder > Preferences > Sidebar also.
