I ordered a refurbished 2012 15" retina which is this one:
http://store.apple.com/ca/product/F...-23ghz-Quad-core-Intel-i7-with-retina-Display

I was wondering if I made a good choice since this was only $50 more than the current 13" 256gb retina model which has the haswell chip and iris graphics..I know that I probably won't get as good of a battery life but I'm still assuming the refurb one that I ordered is still much faster than the current 13" specs.

thanks

It depends on the clock speed but my sandy bridge i7 still outpaces my brand new i5 work laptop (HP) by about 2 to 1.

It has more space for cooling and GPU, hence both CPU and GPU are more powerful even than those in new retina 13".

In fact, that CPU is faster by some 70% margin.

It's still going to blow the dual core Haswell out of the water. The i5 scores around 6000 in GB3, while the Ivy Bridge i7 scores around 11000.

You've made the right choice.
