iWeb File Posting Errors

I may not be doing something bone-head simply but when I create a linked file in iWeb (I think I am doing all the things right) I get an error message when I try an open the link from FireFox browsers on a Mac or PC.

The error message says " Alert - FireFox does not know how to open this address, because the protocol isn't assocated with any program."

I've tried PDFs, Excel, Tiff files. No luck.

What am I doing wrong?
