So I have a website I built. However, I lost the domain file (long story).

However, I have the folder that contains all the files. And, in fact, when I throw that up onto my non-apple hosting server, the site looks great.

But - I want to edit the site. And I can't do that using Dreamweaver (good lord, Dreamweaver does't know WHAT to do with iWeb's html). But without the Domain file I can't use iWeb either.

Is there any way to recreate the Domain file?

thanks!

Sorry to say the answer is NO.

You probably won't find and editor that can make sense of what iweb outputs either. It's some pretty complex and fabricated html. You'd have to edit yourself.

Your best course might be to recreate the domain file.

+1 to MurphyM's response unfortunately.... :(

At the time of publishing to a folder, iWeb creates a lot of code "on the fly" in addition to the .html code, particularly the css info.

Having the currently site makes it possible to retrieve graphics and such in order to help in the rebuilding from scratch process, but unfortunately that is about the only way it actually helps you.

Time for a backup strategy to get put in place and executed as it is a shame to lose that work. :(
