Iweb slow when adding pictures

Im trying to create a website on my c2d Imac using iweb.I havent had this issue b4, but when i want to add my own pictures using the media button...it takes forever to open and i get the spinning candy cursor and when i try to scroll down the list of pictures it does the spinning again.I have a 1gb ram etc.I havent had this issue when th e imac was brand new.
The cpu seems to jump up in power when iweb is running..
mmmm...any suggestions?
