iWires and connecting MacBook to TV

I have bought the techlink iWires to connect my MacBook to my TV.

I bought the laptop in 2009. The TV is a Panasonic Veira. I have plugged the cable into the only hole that it fits on the laptop, and into the HDMI3hole on the telly.

But no picture or sound:(

What's wrong?!
 
Did you go to System Preferences > Sound > Output and select the right output?
