Is there a way to a XLS or XLSX (Office 2007) file in Numbers and not have to go through some complex export process to save it in the same format it was opened in? I often open Windows' users files but need to save them in the same format. By default, when I hit Command-S, Numbers asks me to save it in a Numbers format and doesn't give me any other option. Very annoying.

Actually, I can't even find a way to save a Numbers document as XLSX, only XLS. What gives?

For saving using a non-Numbers format, use the Export option in the Files Menu, not Save (as with Pages).

When I export, it only saves in XLS. I want it to save in the format I opened it in -- XLSX.

Tried NeoOffice?

Might tide you over until the next version of Excel shows up.

What are you doing that requires the XLSX format? (e.g. anything XML specific embedded in your spreadsheet?)
