I bought Pages on my iPad a while back and was wondering wether I can now download it on my mac for free using the same Apple ID I bought the iPad version with?

They are two different applications, one written for iOS the other written for MacOS. You will need to purchase the Mac app if you wish to have it on the Mac.

The iPad one is a slightly 'lite' version. You'll find more options on the Mac versions of the big three.
