I have an iPhone 3GS on 4.2.1 with a baseband of 05.15.04.

As I understand it, if my baseband is upgraded to 06.15, I won't be able to re-load my factory defaults, or cover up my jailbreak if I need an exchange.

I don't care about unlocking, I'm using the phone on AT&T anyway.

So is there a way to jailbreak 4.2.1 on my 3GS while leaving the baseband as it is, meaning that I could still factory reset, etc, if needed? Most of the guides I've found either say they DO upgrade the baseband, or are vague as to whether or not they do.

Umm, you have to take pretty extensive and specific steps to install the 6.15.00 baseband, so it's not like you are going to do it by accident.

Just run greenpois0n.

Oh I bet there are tons of readers out there that could manage to install 6.15 by accident from what I've read.

Not that I'm discounting the power of a dedicated idiot, but don't you have to:

1. Download special PwnageTool
2. Download 500+ meg iPad firmware
3. Download regular firmware
4. Click confirm when Pwnage pops up a big nasty warning message.

Just jailbreak it with Greenpois0n, you will have an untethered jailbreak and your baseband will remain at 05.15.04.

You are talking about the same people who accidentally update their iOS--even though they claim they need their jb/unlock. Never underestimate the depth of stupidty that sheeple have.
