I have a iphone 3g but the same has happened with my brothers ipod touch 3g
software version 4.1
jailbroken and now wont turn off, wont go in recovery mode or restore...
Someone please help...run out of options

You'll also notice that most of the apps don't work; Cydia's icon is white; the Phone icon is gone; iTunes won't backup the iPhone; all as reported in the comments following this tutorial.
Basically, redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 won't jailbreak the final 4.1 firmware properly. It was for the beta releases. You'll have to wait for an update to jailbreak 4.1 on iPhone 3G.

I tried it myself and confirm all the above + the iPhone won't turn off. Just get it in DFU mode and restore. Just did that.

I'm guessing you tried to use Redsn0w to JB 4.1
As dzp replied Redsn0w hasn't been updated to JB 4.1 yet, thus all the issues.
Others who have done the same, have documented many of the same issues.

Thanks

I tried to downgrade it but all the ones i used asked me to turn off the phone, which it wouldnt do..
What should I use or do to fix it??

Plug your phone via USB and go through the motion of putting it in DFU mode. <<< google it!
iTunes will prompt you to restore.
That's how I did it.

thank you, it seems to be working perfectly now.. which application should i use to downgrade and jailbreak??

oh ok, lol..ive tried that but its still on 4.1
i have no idea how to downgrade it

Well, did you use the .ipsw file for an older firmware version ?
You can download any firmware for your device from here and then alt+click (shift+click on Windows) the Restore button in iTunes to select the firmware you downloaded. If you simply click the Restore button, iTunes will load the current firmware.

Ive tried that but it keeps saying error 3014... and wont downgrade
im not sure if i have the SHSH saved, the last time i updated my phone was 2 years ago, so unless it did it by itself then, I have no clue what it is
