You must run a tethered JB unless you are on 4.3.3 or lower. Here are the steps to properly JB a tethered JB:

Hook your phone up and boot via redsn0w. You'll need to do this everytime you reboot/boot your phone.

I dont think you get the concept of the "tethered" jailbreak.
