Jailbreak iPhone 3G 3.1.3 with redsn0w 0.9.2 worked!

I just did the update to FW 3.1.3 and used redsn0w to jailbreak. It worked fine...no problem. I did not have the unlock. If you are interested in the unlock (like blacksn0w), stay away from this. This is JB only.

Here's what I did, FYI.

BTW, I used a Mac.

1. Backed up iPhone 3G to iTunes.

2. Copied the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware from Library/iTunes to desktop

3. Downloaded iPhone firmware 3.1.3 with iTunes

4. Restored iPhone 3G with iTunes.

5. Did not set up as new phone; restored using last backup

6. Downloaded and installed redsn0w 0.9.2. Closed iTunes.

7. Ran redSn0w, pointed it to FW 3.1.2 on the desktop, installed Cydia only.

8. That's it!
 
Yes, the Dev Team has confirmed that redsn0w 0.9.2 works with 2G, 3G, and newer iPT2. They say a 1-bit change to the code will fix it for older iPT2's. iPhone 3GS and iPT3 are out of luck until a new exploit is found.
 
I'm on an iPhone 3G as well and was wondering how is everything? Is everything, dare i say it, any snappier? Because I've seen a couple posts where it is for the 3G and even the 2G. Also, do all of your jailbroken apps work accordingly as well?

Following the update to 3.1.3 and the jailbreak, the iPhone seems to run at the same speed/performance it did under 3.1.2...no change.

I've only installed a couple of JB apps. (PDA Net, MXTube, Shiny Dock) and they run fine...no problem.
 
best bet for iphone 3g users (like myself) is to wait till dev team say it's safe to jailbreak. Yes the OP says JB works but the unlock doesn't it seems.

RobT has the baseband been upgraded from 05.11.07? you can find out at the bottom of the about screen on the iPhone

1) The Dev Team has already announced that Redsn0w works on the 2G and 3G, but not the 3GS.

2) There is an entire thread about the fact that 3.1.3 contains a new baseband version (05.12.01) which closes up the exploit used for blacksn0w. If one upgrades to 3.1.3 stock, he will not be able to unlock.

I don't know what you mean by "not a real jailbreak." Redsn0w can jailbreak firmware 3.1.3 perfectly (on a 2G or 3G phone). The portions of the code redsn0w patches in 3.1.2 and copies to your phone are identical in 3.1.3, so it is perfectly safe to "trick" the phone into jailbreaking 3.1.3 by pretending you have 3.1.2 installed. The result is still a jailbroken firmware 3.1.3.

Correct, baseband is now at 05.12.01

Jailbreak works, unlock doesn't
 
Does the phone take a while to reboot after following your steps? Its in a black screen, but its obvious its on because its not completely black. I did the JB because I dont need the phone to be unlocked here in Greece.

Doesn't take long to reboot. I don't remember a black screen for any length of time when I did the JB
 
I have a new 3GS, JB:d with blackrain and only teathered. I was wondering, if i restore it to 3.1.3 and jailbreak with Redsn0w, will i be able to reboot the phone without jailbreaking it again?

This method only works for 3G.

If you saved your SHSH in Cydia, you can restore your 3GS to 3.1.2. If not, you are stuck.

I have a 3gs on 3.1.3, which is a late model, with MC in the model number. From reading these boards, I understand that there is nothing that can be done. But after reading your post, is that not true? The phone is factory unlocked, so I dont need to unlock it afterwards, just need to JB it. Can I not do that with this current model?

Poster has a 3G, not a 3GS

This WILL NOT work on 3GS

There is no current JB for 3GS on 3.1.3

(or you could read the post above yours)

I understand that there is no JB for the 3GS, but from what the Dev Teams site said, it can be done if you dont need the phone unlocked. So I am curious, since my phone is factory unlocked, shouldnt I be able to JB it?

Edit: My mistake, the blog doesnt mention the 3GS, I was wrong.
