Hey all,

I have been out of the jailbreaking scene for a long time now. I have a 16GB iPhone 3G running 3.1.3 (7E18). I want to jailbreak this to get the mywi app for use with my iPad.

Can 3.1.3 be jailbroken, and if so what is the best method used these days?

Thanks for any advice you have.

Redsn0w 0.9.4 ... I literally jailbroke my iPhone 3G with it 20 minutes ago and am very pleased with the results.

In fact, I was so annoyed by the lack of home screen backgrounds in 4.0 thus far on the 3G, that I ended up using Cydia to install Winterboard and this theme ...

And no, it doesn't slow down or lag in the slightest. The phone works as it always did.

I thought it wasn't possible to Jailbreakd 3.1.3 with the new baseband?

I don't know mate, all I know is that I am on a locked O2 pay as you go iPhone and running 3.1.3.

You download Redsn0w 0.9.4 and iPhone OS 3.1.2 (yes, the previous version) and run the program. It verifies the firmware, creates a new set of files, asks you to power off, talks you through DFU mode, reboots, and installs away ... took less than five minutes.

And ... ProSwitcher!

With 3g you can, not sure about the 3gs,

Redsnow works great. Winterboard for me though really slowed the phone down and that was with just a simple backround pic, but I have a lot of mobile substrates loaded up. When I uninstalled winterboard it seemed a lot more snappy. Lockinfo is the best.

like WeegieMac mentioned, jailbreaking an iPhone 3G with redsnow is extremely easy.

WeegieMac - those are just winterboard themes for the ipad & 4.0 look?

that proSwitcher looks awesome.. can't believe i haven't seen it yet

I've just enabled the Summerboard optimisation option and it seems fine.

Yeah mate, if you search for and download "iPhoneOS 4.0 Theme v1" (do NOT download "iPhone OS 4.0 Theme", it does not have the lock screen wallpaper set to the "bubbles").

ProSwitcher is unbelievable, the interface is superb and you can customise how you access (double tap home button, hold in home button for 2 seconds, etc).

My 3G has been given a new lease of life by Jailbreaking it, I wish I'd done it six months ago.

It can't be unlocked, but jailbreaking works fine. 3GS owners at 3.1.3, on the other hand, are out of luck for now.

Most likely it can't be unlocked. but there are some original 3G iPhones that can have the baseband downgraded using fuzzyband and then unlocked with ultrasn0w. I've done it with mine.

is there a different source needed for "iPhoneOS 4.0 Theme v1" ? I dont find that one.. I see the other one you mentioned, but doesn't work properly like you said.. thanks

This has really confused me now.

Last time I had an iPhone it was back in Oct/Nov when Blackra1n was released so I've been out of the hacking market for a few months but it seems to have changed quite abit in a short space of time.

Basically I want to jailbreak but am struggling to find a 3G on 3.1.2 but does this mean I can find an officially unlocked 3G 8GB so I can slip my 3 UK sim in and then still jailbreak 3.1.3? Do Apple require the 3G to be reloaded with signed software? Do the 3G bootrom still allow this if I went out and bought a new one today?

Really sorry long post but need help asap! Would highly appreciate some advice.
