My friend has a iPhone 3G she wants jail broken and possibly unlocked.

There still things that will jailbreak this device? Would the new release JB software be backward compatible? Or would I need an old version of the JB software?

Even still possible and supported?

How about unlocking?

I'm running iOS5 jailbroken. Been a long time since I dabbled with a 3G iPhone.

Thanks.

Why type out a long post asking your questions when you could have just googled with your post title and likely ended up at iClarified where all your questions would be answered?

Because it's easier for somebody with more knowledge of the older iphones to answer the question vs. looking at possibly outdated tutorials and running trial and errors.... for a seemingly easy question. Yes/no.

If you are running IOS 5, then your phone is not 3G. Latest firmware for 3G is 4.2.1.

It's still possible to jailbreak a 3G iPhone.

You'll probably have to install the iPad baseband if you want to unlock the phone.
