Hello everyone,

I have an iPhone 3Gs. Version 5.0.1(9A405). Serial Number xx151xxxx and Modem Firmware 05.16.05.
I have been through a number of guides to unlock and jailbreak this phone but I do see that a lot of people had trouble with phones from the week later than 40. Is it possible to jailbreak/unlock this phone without damaging the antenna?

Do I need to restore the iPhone with an earlier OS and than preform the jailbreak/unlock?

Thank you for your time.

There are conflicting information about the new 3GS which is manufactured in 2011. Some said week 30, some said week 35 and now you said week 40. So, I am not sure which one is correct. However, look at the link which one of the member in here took the risk and tried on his phone with week 37 and look like he has done it.

Hello Crystal-RX,

Thank you for the reply. I just wanted to let everyone know I was able to both jailbreak and unlock my iPhone 3Gs.

Here are my phone specs:
Version: 5.0.1 (9A405)
Serial Number: xx151xxxxxx
Modem Firmware (baseband): 05.16.05

So, this is a NEW bootrom phone and it is a very late week (51).
I did NOT have to change my baseband at all. (I learned the hard way ><) I just jailbroke using redsn0w version "redsn0w_win_0.9.10b1". Once that completed successfully, I was able to unlock using ultrasn0w. So, no tricks or anything!
It should be noted that the old phone (the one I tried to upgrade to the iPad baseband) had the following specs:
Model: 5.0.1
Baseband: 05.15.04
When I did the same thing on that phone, I was able to jailbreak, but not unlock. I don't know if anything changed between those version (I'm not too familiar with apple products) but the unlock did work on this newer version.

My advice, try a standard jailbreak and unlock before attempting to change baseband. My next step would have been to revert back to iOS 4.1, jailbreak/unlock with redsn0w 0.9.6rc16, and than try to upgrade to the iPad baseband but I am not sure this would work as the hardware on the phone does not change and therefore is still susceptible to damage.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks.

I am not sure what to do. My iPhone 3GS is jailbroken, but not unlocked. I do not really want to use an iPad baseband because I've heard people have not had luck with it. I don't want to use a custom firmware either. Is there another way?

Version- 5.0.1 (9A405)
FIRMWARE_ 05.16.05
Serial #- xx933xxxxxx

So Looking at the serial, I my iPhone is a week 33 yr 2009? If there isn't any other way, does this mean I can use the ipad baseband without damaging the antenna? Help please. I used to jailbreak iPhones when it was easier lol, but I am not having any luck with this one.

Yes, your phone was produced Week 33 of year 2009, you have the old bootrom and installing iPad BB will work without corrupting baseband. But beware, you may lose GPS functionality when installing ipad BB

Apple is still signing 4.1 for 3G/3GS phones, so you can restore phone onto iOS 4.1 then kick it out of recovery using TinyUmbrella.

Bad news!

Hey guys,

Bad news, I let my iphone battery die to test and see if it would work after a just boot. It did not! I now have the No Service problem. I restored the iphone, reinstalled redsn0w to jailbreak and re-unlocked with ultrasn0w. No luck.

I followed the exact same process as before but this time it is not working (I have tried about 15 times now with different variations). Does anyone have an idea why this would work once, but not anymore?

I think what I am going to do now is restore the iphone back to 4.2.1 and jailbreak/unlock with redsn0w version 0.9.6rc16. Then I will restore with the iPad baseband. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

Hey Crystal,
Do you think I should restore to 4.1 through itunes or using redsn0w?
Thanks

Hey Crystal,
Do you think I should restore to 4.1 through itunes or using redsn0w?
Thanks

1. Download 3GS 4.1 on your PC.
2. Put your phone into DFU, hit shift + restore and point to 4.1
3. Once you get 1015 error, use tiny umbrella to exit recovery.
4. Use reds now to jailbreak and flash iPad baseband.
5. Install ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock.
6. Reboot your phone.

This is my question exactly. But after reading the thread I'm not sure what the right thing to do is. Do I install an earlier OS and go ahead with it? I'm new to this. Can I jailbreak without changing the baseband?

Thanks.

hi, i have iphone3gs it has old bootrom running ios 4.1 ( 8b117)but has shsh blobs 4.1 and 5.1.1. baseband is 06.15.00
what am trying to figure out is what is the best way to get ios 5.1.1 running on the phone as 4.1 does not allow a lot of apps to work. im very new to all this so any help would be grateful.
